Summer series 9th August

We could easily get use to the constant sunshine as we enjoyed another beautiful day at Costa del Gorleston. Another good mix of classes among the ten boats sailing today.

The race team are helped into the water

The race team opted to mix things up a bit and declared they would be setting a triangular course.  As the boats slowly left the shore the wind was light and coming from somewhere from the N-NW.  Like many a good plan things were about to change and as the start sequence began  the wind decided it would shift, and shift it did and went to the SE. Undeterred the race team shot into action and reset the course. The wind by now had increased a bit.

Racing gets underway

Ed, sailing solo this week in the Spitfire as the forecast was for light winds led the fleet around the course followed by the two 400’s, Richard & Rosie and Dave & John. Behind, four single handers were having a close battle with Vareo Richard and Zenith Phil rounding the leeward gate together with Zenith Roger one second later and Abby a few seconds after in the Streaker.   Ed managed to lap most of the fleet with the exception of the two 400’s, with Richard & Rosie finishing second.  Zenith Phil led the rest of the boats home with Abby finishing next.

Race two, Ed had another lonely race in front with Richard & Rosie again winning the battle of the 400’s. Phil is definitely finding the Zenith to his liking as again he led the main pack of the fleet, again just ahead of Abby.

With a few boats opting to head back to shore race three had a reduced fleet. With the wind now even stronger the race team opted to shorten the race, with Richard & Rosie managing two laps and the rest  just one. Phil crossing the line just two seconds ahead of Abby.

On corrected time Richard & Rosie had the perfect score line and Abby managing two seconds and a third.

Thanks to the race team who where keep busying most of the day, not just with course relaying but also had a few capsizes to deal with.

This week was the final act of the summer series. After 17 races congratulations go to Paul, sailing his Solution into top spot beating Dave & John in their RS400 by less than a point and Abby third, sailing either her RS700 or Streaker.

Next week is the second and final instalment of the Hopton race series. And the week after that it’s the start of the Autumn series!
